Guides and explanations of how TikBon works

Quick start guide

Step 1: Create an account

Create a free account with your email address and a password.

Step 2: Fill in your business details

Right after signing up you fill in your business details (you can change them later under Settings):

  • Business name
  • Address, postcode, town or city
  • KvK (Chamber of Commerce) number (8 digits)
  • VAT ID (NL + 9 digits + B + 2 digits), or the choice for the KOR (small business scheme)
  • IBAN (for payments by bank transfer)
  • Payment term

Step 3: Add a client

Add a client under Clients, or directly while creating an invoice. Only a name is required; with an email address you can email the invoice.

Step 4: Create an invoice

Go to New invoice, choose the client, add your lines and choose iDEAL or bank transfer. Then share the payment link, let your client scan the QR code or email the invoice.

Invoices

Invoice numbering

Invoices automatically get a number in the format INV-YYYY-NNNNN, for example INV-2024-00001. Numbering starts at 1 per user and goes up in sequence.

VAT calculation

Each line has its own VAT rate (21%, 9% or 0%). VAT is calculated per rate over the total of those lines, as the Belastingdienst (Dutch tax authority) expects. If you use the KOR, no VAT is calculated.

Line amount = Quantity × Price excl. VAT
VAT per rate = (sum of lines with that rate) × rate / 100
Total = sum of lines + sum of VAT

Invoice statuses

  • Open: The invoice has been created and is waiting for payment
  • Overdue: The due date has passed without payment
  • Paid: The client has paid (automatically with iDEAL, or marked by you)
  • Cancelled: The invoice has been withdrawn; the payment link no longer works

Mollie integration

TikBon uses Mollie Connect: you connect your own Mollie account and payments go straight into it. No account yet? You create one for free while connecting.

Payment methods

Your client pays by iDEAL, plus the methods you switch on yourself in your Mollie account (such as Bancontact or credit card). If you choose bank transfer for an invoice, your IBAN and the payment reference are on the invoice.

Payment flow

  1. You create an invoice
  2. Your client gets the payment link by email, via WhatsApp or as a QR code
  3. The client pays through Mollie, into your Mollie account
  4. TikBon is notified automatically and marks the invoice as paid
  5. Your client receives a payment confirmation with the invoice PDF

Security

TikBon takes security seriously:

  • Passwords are stored hashed with bcrypt
  • All connections are encrypted with HTTPS/TLS
  • Payment details are not stored on our servers
  • Sessions expire automatically after inactivity
